The Philippine government and the
Moro Islamic Liberation Front will resume peace efforts with their 37th
exploratory talks in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia on Monday, March 25.
MILF chief negotiator Mohagher Iqbal said they expect to tackle annexes
on power-wealth sharing and normalization, state-run Philippines News
Agency reported late Saturday.
"I hope we can agree on these issues during our next meeting," Iqbal said.
In
the last exploratory talks, the government and MILF peace panels signed
one of four annexes - the transitional arrangements and modalities
(TAM).
Iqbal said that while both sides had agreed on power and wealth sharing, they have yet to sign an agreement.
After the signing of the agreements, the Transition Commission headed
by Iqbal is to convene to draft the proposed basic law, which will be
sent to Congress for approval.
Once Aquino signs it, the measure will be brought to the people for ratification.
Monday's talks were scheduled amid an ongoing row in Sabah where
Malaysian security forces are flushing out followers of Sulu Sultan
Jamalul Kiram III.
But Iqbal said he is optimstic the Sabah row will not affect the peace process, where Malaysia is a third-party facilitator. — ELR, GMA News
