PETALING JAYA: The Olympic Day Run which is scheduled to be held this Sunday has been postponed indefinitely.
“The run has been postponed due to the haze,” said McDonalds corporation communications official Leonard Wong.
Wong said that postponement was only known to McDonalds internal
staff so far. The organisers are expected to make an official
announcement soon.
McDonalds and Olympic Council of Malaysia are jointly organising this
run that has been pushed into the media spotlight in the past weeks.
Initially the run was scheduled to be held at Dataran Merdeka.
However the authorities recommended the venue to be changed to Padang
Merbok, ostensibly to deter a Pakatan Rakyat rally at the field a day
before.
Pakatan is planning to hold its Black 505 rally on Saturday at Padang
Merbok. The police and Kuala Lumpur City Hall have rejected the
Pakatan’s choice of the venue as it would be clashing with the run.
Earlier today, PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli maintained that
Pakatan would continue hosting its rally to protest the 13th general
election results in Padang Merbok.
“Unless the leadership decides that I can no longer represent
Pakatan, there is no change in the venue. It will be Padang Merbok,”
said Rafizi.
