Five-way tussle for Kota Raja


KLANG: The Kota Raja parliamentary seat will be a five-way tussle between the Barisan Nasional’s S Murugessan and PAS’ Dr Siti Mariah Mahumud and three Independents.

Incumbent Siti Mariah and MIC secretary-general Murugessan will be the ones to watch.
The others are Human Right Party (HRP) chairman P Uthayakumar, fomer PKR’s KS Kottapan and a local Azmi Idrus.

Siti Mariah won the seat in 2008 with a majority of 20,000 votes, defeating MIC’s former Youth chief SA Vickneswaran.


Kota Raja has 75,000 total voters, of which Indians form 28.3%, Malay make up 47.8% while Chinese voters make up 23.2%.

In a related development, Uthayakumar and Kottapan also submitted nomination papers for the Seri Andalas state seat which will see a four-cornered fight.

The other two are incumbent PKR’s Dr Xavier Jeyakumar and MIC Youth chief T Mohan.
Sri Muda, another state seat in the Kota Raja constituency, will see a three-cornered fight among Barisan Nasional’s Abdul Raof Mokthar, PKR incumbent Shuhaimi Shafie and local born business woman D Rameshwaree.
