Mahfuz takes over from Azizan as Kedah PAS chief

May 12: PAS vice president Mahfuz Omar (pic) has been appointed as the party's Kedah state commissioner, replacing former Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak.

The decision was reached by the Central PAS Committee which met for the first time since the May 5 general election at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

PAS secretary general Mustafa Ali also announced a post-mortem into PAS's defeat in the state in the just concluded polls. The probe will be chaired by PAS vice president Salahudin Ayub, who will be assisted by former Kuala Selangor MP and PAS research head Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and central party operations director Dr Zuhdi Marzuki.

Azizan recently had to undergo an operation to amputate both his legs due to fears of worsening diabetes.

Apart from losing the state administration, PAS also lost five parliamentary seats in Kedah, namely Jerai, Pendang, Sik, Baling and Padang Terap.
