Hishamuddin Rais surrenders to the police

KUALA LUMPUR: Activist Hishamuddin Rais surrendered himself to the police this morning at the Jalan Duta Court Complex.

He came to the court this morning, accompanied by his lawyer, Murnie Hidayah Anuar.
“He surrendered at the police beat base here where his statement was recorded
“He was charged under section 4(1) of the Sedition Act for a speech he made during a forum on May 13.

“Sessions Court judge Norsharidah Awang fixed bail at RM5,000,” said Murnie.

Hishamuddin is among those wanted by the police following speeches that was made during a forum on May 13.

The highlight in that forum were calls for the people to stage street protests in a bid to over throw the federal government in Putrajaya.

A police warrant was issued for Hishamuddin last night but he could not be traced by the police.

Batu MP Tian Chua, Anything But Umno founder Haris Ibrahim, PAS member Tamrin Ghafar and Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia president Safwan Anang were arrested yesterday at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

This morning the four faced charges under Sedition Act.
All four are currently on bail.

Last week student activist Adam Adli was the first to be detained under similar charges. He was released on bail.

This was followed by the arrest of Haris, Tamrin and Tian Chua.

The police however failed to obtain a remand order against the trio.
